Colmar/ France
July 2019 I by Renata
This Summer I have realised that although I have been living in Germany/ Saarland for half my life, I hardly know this country. Even the most interesting places in the immediate neighborhood are unknown to me. The same goes for France and Luxembourg which are just round the corner. Time to change it. Our very first one-day excursion led us to a small charming French town Colmar, the hidden gem of the French Alsace, situated between the Vosges and the Rhine.
Riquewihr & Ribeauvillé
May 2019 I by Renata
Between the peaks of the Vosges mountains and the Alsatian vineyards you can discover two charming medieval towns classified among the «Most Beautiful Villages in France», which have managed to preserve their authentic character: cobbled streets dotted with half-timbered winemakers’ shops, inner courtyards embellished by old wells and fountains, oriel windows...Everything admirably decorated with flowers. I was lucky to spend in this amazing place several hours end of May. If you wish, have a look on this video showing a few impressions of my trip to this unquestionably beautiful spot.
Clothes Refashioning
February 2019 I by Renata
Since January I have been adventuring into the exciting world of T-Shirt refashioning. There are tons of creative ways to transform old tops into fantastic “new” pieces. Sometimes the transformation could be dramatic: from a boxy, over sized basic T-Shirt to an adorable fitted peplum style shirt or into a ruffled top with a gorgeous asymmetrical neckline...Sometimes cute little bits of lace are enough to make of the shirt an eye catcher.
Wool felting
January 2019 I by Renata
I discovered felt at a local arts and crafts market. Hats, vests and scarves made out of wool in the most delicious colors. Truly adorable! Being busy with other craft projects my interest for felting was limited to only admire the work of felting artists. But deep in my mind I treasured for years the idea to try this craft myself. This Autumn the Big Day arrived.
Upcycling
December 2018 I by Renata
Hello there on this cold, wet and windy December Saturday. At the moment the whole world, with exception of me, seems to be in the Christmas fever. Blink, blink at each corner, busy folk chasing for Christmas gifts, cinnamon scent in the air... Me, I have my own universe: a cozy crafty corner, my old sewing machine and a huge box filled with diverse buttons, ribbons, fabric pieces, rivets, lace borders... Upcycling is the newest hot topic in the fashion industry. There, I am absolutely up to date.
Mandalas
October 2018 I by Renata
I remember the times when I've been grinning quietly to myself about my mother's dress-habits. The more colorful, the better. Meanwhile I must admit , that I am pretty much the same. Love of colors would explain my recent fascination for mandalas which began several months ago when I set eyes on a beautiful book with mandala-styled drawings.
Holi Festival
of Colors
April 2018 I by Renata
Recently I came across an interesting theory for a better and happier life: “Reduce your belongings and try everyday to experience something new”. Well, while the first advice is definitely feasible (however, by making some effort), the second one is much more difficult to handle. Last year I got the opportunity to participate in an event named: Holi Festival of colors.
Second life for an old sofa
March 2018 I by Renata
Long time debated, long time postponed, long time searched for an adequate successor...but in the end the decision was made: our old, worn out red leather sofa must vanish. After 20 years of a good service! The day the removal men came I set my eyes on the “old lady” and I had a brilliant idea. Why not cut scraps of the leather and use them for small projects?
Artistic Soap
my new lovely hobby
December 2017 I by Renata
Last Sunday I spent a few hours on soap making. In recent years, there has been a revival of the home-based soap making process. But of course, these days we are more relaxed about it. Instead of mixing different oils with a base solution we prefer to use the pre made soap base “melt & pour”. All you need to do is to cut up the soap base into small chunks, microwave for 30 seconds into a smooth liquid, stir in fragrances, herbs, and whatever other ingredients your heart desires. Pour it into molds and let it cool for a few hours.
Artistic Trading Cards
Express yourself in a small format

Have you heard of Artist Trading Cards? ATCs is an art project initiated by the Swiss artist M. Vänçi Stirnemann in 1997.They are self-made unique works or small series (size: 64 mm × 89 mm), signed and dated on the reverse by the artist/producer, exchanged and collected by people who participate in the collaborative performance.
Potato Evening
October 2017 I by Renata
+ recipe:
Potato Almond Cake
Late in October 2016 I discovered in one of our local newspapers an advertisement/ invitation to so called Potato-Evening. It was organized by one of the local biologists and adventure-based-pedagogue Guido. He prepared a very informative lecture about the potato (the historical aspects as well as growing conditions, varieties, nutrition...) accompanied by some amusing stories. The participants got the opportunity taste several sorts of potato (boiled) which are not available in our supermarkets + every now and then we got served delicious dishes based of course on potatoes as main ingredient.
Tomato-Diary 2017
August 2017 I by Renata
+ recipe:
Stuffed Avocado with Tomato- Salsa
This year the prospect of being treated by Mother Nature to an excellent tomato harvest started promisingly: all seeds (my own ones saved from the past season) germinated without any problem thanks to my new discovery, a coconut- fiber- sowing- mix which works well for seeds to germinate and to build roots. The baby plants grew in no time and even if I couldn't offer them perfect light conditions, they developed into strong healthy seedlings. The very first setback arrived end of April. I permitted myself to go on a two-week-holiday and the plants never forgave me this “betrayal”.
Rakuwaria Festival
20 July 2017/ by Renata
Since I've start the “clay-adventure”, my life has been enriched by a new source of exciting activities. June brought with it a lovely event called Rakuwaria, organized by Ed Knops and Family in a charming village Sevenum/ south Netherlands. It's a kind of meeting place and unlimited info/ inspiration source for pottery enthusiasts as well as for novices interested in Raku.
Hot Air Balloon Adventure
5 May 2017 I by Renata
Every year in May over and over again: Happy Birthday to you dear Renata! Mostly I celebrate it by offering myself something out of the ordinary. In 2015 it was a lovely hot air balloon ride over an amazing landscape of the Bliesgau. Here a few photos to show you the beauty of this experience.

Wild garlic pesto
Wild garlic (also known as - 'bear's garlic', 'devil's garlic', 'gypsy's onions' and 'stinking Jenny') is for me the intensely longed-for harbinger of the spring season. In our area we can pick this plant in favorable weather conditions in the middle of April in deciduous woodland areas or by river banks, as well as in our gardens if we can offer it some shadowed spot. It's hardly possible to miss the growing place as it's announced a long way ahead by a heady garlic aroma.
Saarland and its Neighborhood
1. April in Saarland
9 April 2017 I by Renata
After two holiday stories from splendid faraway destinations, I thought it was time to show you some views of the area I live in. The landscape is surely less “exotic” but certainly not less amazing. So, let us start this mini photo series "Saarland and its Neighborhood”.
Mandala Crochet
24 March 2017 I by Renata
My creativity “strolls” at the moment through the wonderful world of yarn. What started out this winter as a few crochet flowers and granny squares with small mandala as a center to give a new lease of life to my old clothes, has turned into an exciting pastime for the cold and dark evenings.

Flower Kaleidoscope
You're only here for a short visit. Don't hurry, don't worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.
Walter Hagen
Today I would like to share with you some macro-flower images taken during the last couple of years either by myself or by my friends Irmi and Christine. Enjoy!
Sri Lanka
3 February 2017 I by Renata
Germany 2012, cold, gray and wet January, streets crowded by foul mood-ed sneezing people, nasty germs ready to spread to new victims...No thanks, not for me. I was more for sandy beach, turquoise sea, splendid nature, fascinating history, yummy food... All this in the middle of winter? Yes, that's possible...The magical word is: Sri Lanka.
Knitting
Anelma Kervinen socks.
15 February 2017 I by Renata
This year's winter is not really hard but...better to be prepared for any eventuality! A new pair of warm socks can never be too much. Smile. A while ago one of my Scandinavian pals mentioned the Anelma Kervinen socks to me. A quick visit to Google/YouTube confirmed that her enthusiasm is absolutely justified. What an “explosion of colors”! I fell immediately in love with this style.
Pen Palling

I know, the old fashioned Snail-Mail is on the point of disappearing. This way of communicating is rather slow, it's often unreliable and also quite costly seeing the price of postage rise year upon year. I'm not one of those people happy with all the modern media methods of communication (E-Mail/SMS/Twitter....) but of course I can't/ don't want to ignore all the advantages it offers and I use it everyday for sending short messages/ official letters.
